Lenormand and Geomancy Readings with Jo Weiszenfeld
The LENORMAND, or more precisely: the Petit Lenormand, is one of the most popular card oracles alongside the Tarot, which can predict all areas of life in a very detailed way, sometimes with astonishing precision.
As a traditional Lenormand reader, Jo Weiszenfeld has mastered the two major methods of the so-called Grand Tableau (large table): The Method of Distance and the House Method, with their different areas of application.
However, the Lenormand deck is also very suitable for small spreads: the Line of Five, the 5-Cross and the Portrait (3×3 box) spread. Even with these small spreads, detailed readings can be obtained.
GEOMANCY is particularly good at detecting paranormal phenomena such as hauntings or crossed conditions.
But the fields of application of Geomancy are almost inexhaustible and provide insights at every level and for every question of human existence. From weather to hidden treasures, from partnerships to money and from ghosts, curses, travelling and religion to friends, secrets and lying to the geomancer, everything imaginable is covered.
As a particular advantage, geomancy offers very clear answers to yes/no questions – something that should be avoided with most oracles.

Background: The LENORMAND Oracle
„The versatility of Lenormand never ceases to amaze me. Originally it was a game for the upper middle classes, but the Petit Lenormand found a home with ladies who read to earn extra money, with the savvy Doamnelors in Eastern Europe and even with the Mae-de-Santo in Brazil. I hope it will amaze you too and enrich your life.“
Andy Boroveshengra
Contrary to what the title of the Petit Lenormand might suggest, the card deck has nothing to do with the famous fortune teller at the French royal court. Mademoiselle Lenormand was also known as the „Sibyl of Paris“. Her real name was Marie Anne Lenormand and she became famous as a necromancer and fortune teller whose clients included such personalities as Marat and his opponent in the French Revolution, Robespierre as well as Tsar Alexander I. Her fame spread rapidly during the Napoleonic era and established her influence in the French wave of cartomancy that began in the late 18th century.
The Lenormand deck was originally designed as Das Spiel der Hoffnung (The Game of Hope) by the German factory owner Johann Kaspar Hechtel as a board game. For this purpose, 36 cards were laid out and used as board with playing pieces. There are further parallels to the well-known „Gänsespiel“ (Game of Goose).
In the middle of the 19th century, the game of hope underwent a kind of „rebranding“ and was marketed as the 36 fortune-telling cards of Mademoiselle Lenormand. Even then, people knew how to advertise.
Since then, the traditional Lenormand has had 36 cards, which are based on the so-called German pips, with Acorn, Leaf, Heart and Bell, instead of Clubs, Spades, Hearts and Diamonds. In addition to the playing card inserts, these 36 cards have since then had their own images such as Rider, Clover, Ship and Anchor etc., all of which have very specific meanings and, unlike the Tarot, are interpreted primarily according to their fixed meaning and above all according to their position and relationship to the other cards in the spread.
In the Grand Tableau (large tableau), all 36 cards are laid out, which allows for a very large number of combinations. The readings with the Lenormand are characterised by a high level of detail.
Background: RENAISSANCE GEOMANCY
„Geomancy is a traditional Western form of divination based on intuitive contact with the subtle energies of the earth. Nowadays it is probably the least known of the major divination methods belonging to the magical traditions of the Western world; it is not wrong to call it the forgotten oracle of the West.“
John Michael Greer
As described in the quote from John Michael Greer, Geomancy (not to be confused with Feng Shui) is probably one of the most forgotten oracles over the centuries, with an almost inexhaustible depth and range of possibilities. The 16 figures of this binary oracle are not only known in Europe: Also in Africa as the 16 times 16 Odu Ifa or in the Arab world as Iml al Ramal or, in India, as Ramal Shastra. Esoteric grands such as Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa, John Heydon, Cristophe Cattan, John Case and Robert Fludd have written extensively about geomancy.
In more modern times, the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, as well as contemporary figures such as John Michael Greer, Christopher Warnock, Dr. Al Cummins and Sam Block, have been involved with it.
Geomancy is also known as the little sister of astrology or earth astrology, as it works with the powers of the Anima Mundi, the earth soul, to obtain information in non-ordinary ways.
In an intriguingly simple yet at the same time complex process, the 4 so-called mothers are generated from the pool of 16 geomantic figures.
Originally, holes were made in the earth with a stick in 4 x 4 lines in a trance. The 4 daughters and the 4 nieces are generated by mathematical derivations, as well as the Geomantic Court, consisting of the two Witnesses and the Judge, who provides a first summarising answer to the question.
Methods such as the Via Puncti, the Sentence and the 4 Triads expand the possible interpretations.
But that is not all. The first 12 figures are placed on a medieval astrological radix and enable an enormous wealth of detailed interpretations on all areas of the physical, mental and spiritual life of man and the world: from the weather to hidden treasures, from partnership to money and from ghosts, curses, travelling and religion to friends, secrets and lying to the Geomancer, everything imaginable is covered.
As a particular advantage, geomancy offers very clear answers to yes/no questions – something that should be avoided with most oracles.
